How to sell a kitten in Australia

Kittens should stay with mum and littermates until they are old enough, vaccinated as advised by a vet, and listed with honest health notes — not “ready today” at six weeks.

Timing and health

Ask your vet when this litter can leave. Many Australian vets prefer kittens stay until at least 8 weeks, often longer. First vaccines, worming and a health check should be documented.

Follow state rules on selling animals and never ship unweaned kittens. Indoor queens and studs should be desexed when the planned litter is done.

A listing that attracts good homes

  1. Photos in natural light: face, body, with mum if possible.
  2. State breed or domestic, date of birth, sex, and what is included (starter food, health record).
  3. Say whether they are used to children, dogs, and litter type.
  4. Screen for indoor plans, other pets, and who will be home in the day.
  5. Use MateLoop messaging — keep contact on-platform until you are comfortable.

Handover

Meet in a calm indoor space. Send the kitten in a secure carrier with a familiar-smelling cloth. Share the same food for the first week to reduce tummy upsets.

Laws and codes of practice differ by state and council. Confirm local rules; this is not legal advice.
