Know your local rules first
Breeding and selling rules differ by state and council — registration, codes of practice, and limits on how many litters you can produce. This guide is practical listing help, not legal advice. Check your state department of agriculture / primary industries and council pages before you advertise.
If you are not a registered breeder, be honest about that. Never invent papers, vaccinations or “champion lines”.
Health and paperwork buyers expect
- Vet checks, age-appropriate vaccinations, worming schedule, and microchip where required.
- Clear photos of the whole litter and the individual puppy you are selling.
- Parents’ temperament notes and any known breed health issues you have screened for.
- A written record of what is included (food starter, wormer dates, contract terms if you use one).
Screen buyers
Ask about yard, hours alone, kids, other pets and experience. Prefer buyers who ask thoughtful questions over those who only negotiate price and shipping.
Avoid handing a puppy to someone who will not meet or who pressures you to skip a vet check.
