How to rehome a cat in Australia

Cats rehome best when you describe indoor/outdoor habits, litter and multi-cat history honestly — and keep stress low during meetups.

What new owners need to know

  1. Indoor-only, supervised outdoor, or free roaming — be precise.
  2. Litter type, scratching habits, and whether the cat has lived with dogs, kids or other cats.
  3. Desexing, vaccination, FIV/FeLV testing if done, and microchip number.
  4. Why you are rehoming — moving, allergies, and landlord rules are common and fine to say plainly.

Photos and first messages

Show the cat’s face and body in natural light. Mention age and temperament in the first lines of the listing so the right people enquire.

Ask whether the new home is ready with a quiet base room — rushed intros into a busy house are a common return reason.

Handover day

Use a secure carrier. Send leftover food, a familiar blanket, and litter brand if you can. Confirm microchip details will be updated into the new owner’s name after the move.

List your cat as a rehome on MateLoop when you are ready to take messages in one place.
