Setup costs
Litter tray and litter, carrier, scratching post, bowls, hiding boxes, and a secure window or balcony setup if you live high up. Indoor-only cats still need vertical space.
Every year
- Food appropriate for age and health (prescription diets cost more).
- Litter — clumping litter is convenient but not free.
- Flea prevention even for indoor cats.
- Vaccinations, desexing if not done, and dental care as they age.
- Boarding or in-home sitting when you travel.
Two cats is not double the fun for free
A second cat can help a lonely indoor cat, but you pay twice for food, litter and vet care — and you still need a proper introduction. Read our two-cat guide before you list or adopt a companion.
Costs vary by city and the cat’s health. Use this as a checklist, not a quote.
